Presidency opens up on Tinubu’s health, says he’s still nursing ‘knee surgery’

The Presidency has opened up on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s health status, saying he’s still nursing ‘knee surgery’ he went through in London.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga disclosed this in an interview with with Nigerian Tribune.

Recall that Tinubu in 2021 went for a knee surgery in London. This is before the commencement of the campaign for the general election.

He spent almost 3 months in London before returning to Nigeria on October 8, 2021. While in the UK, then-President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Gbajabiamila (now Chief of Staff to the President), and others visited him.

While answering a question about the health of the President, Onanuga during the interview with Nigerian Tribune said the President has no other ailment but is still nursing the knee surgery.

In his words, “No, he was not sick. We made this clear to Nigerians. Tinubu was as fit as the fiddle in the run-up to that election. Before that campaign began, I think a year before, he went for knee surgery, which was not a secret as President Buhari even went to see him in London when he was recuperating.

“So, that was what he went to do – knee surgery. That was why he could not walk properly.

“When you do knee surgery, you cannot be walking like a 25-year-old man. He is still nursing it up till now because it was a major surgery. It is not that he has any other.

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu said he deserves to be listed in the Guinness World Records for the reforms he has made since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

Tinubu stated that during his time as governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007, he moved the state from zero to becoming the fifth largest economy on the continent, adding that his track record prepared him for the presidency.

He made this known during the 10th German-Nigerian Business Forum in Berlin, Germany.

His words: “For those who fear various obstacles, look at me; I come from the private sector, and I’m one of you, trained by Deloitte. I served as the treasurer of Exxon Mobil. Define corporate governance in any way, and I am in it.

“I governed Lagos for eight consecutive years. Today, I can proudly beat my chest that Lagos State is on the horizon and the fifth-largest economy in Africa, rising from zero. This is the track record that led me to the office of president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Nigeria voted for me for reforms, and from day one of my inauguration, I started the reforms. To me, if you didn’t mention me in the Guinness Book of Records, I’d thrive to find a way to insert myself because I did it without expectation, my inaugural speech disclosed what I would do” Tinubu added.

Tinubu’s remarks came after two crucial agreements between Nigerian and German companies were signed in Berlin on Tuesday.
