President Bola Tinubu has condemned the brutal killing of 12 travellers in Plateau State and directed the Inspector General of Police to collaborate with other security and intelligence agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The victims, including the father and brother of the groom, were attacked while travelling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Jos for a wedding. Several others were injured in the ambush, which the President described as “barbaric and unacceptable.”
In a statement issued following the incident, President Tinubu ordered the Nigerian Police Force to launch an immediate and thorough investigation, stressing that “those responsible must be held accountable.”
He called for calm and assured Nigerians that the culprits will not escape justice. “The government of Plateau State must take decisive action in handling these vicious cycles of violence. The state government must work with security agents to get to the root of this recent incident and use it as a deterrent against future occurrences,” Tinubu said.
Reiterating that the right to free movement across the country is non-negotiable, the President warned against any attempts to curtail this freedom through violence and intimidation. “We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear,” he stated.
President Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the victims and the people and government of Kaduna State, promising that justice will be served.
