TINUBU HOSTS QUEEN OF DENMARK IN HISTORIC DIPLOMATIC VISIT TO NIGERIA

President Bola Tinubu on Monday received Queen Mary Elizabeth of Denmark at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, marking a significant milestone in diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Denmark.

The European monarch, who is on a courtesy visit to Nigeria, was received at the State House by President Tinubu and Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The high-level visit underscores deepening bilateral ties and shared interests between both countries.

Although the meeting was held behind closed doors, it is believed that discussions touched on strategic areas of cooperation including trade, climate change, renewable energy, maritime security, and women empowerment — areas where Denmark has maintained a strong international footprint.

Present at the reception were key members of President Tinubu’s cabinet and advisers, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu.

The Queen was accompanied by Denmark’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Jens Bach Hansen, and other members of the Danish delegation. This visit follows a growing pattern of high-level international engagements by the Tinubu administration, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s global partnerships and attracting foreign investment.

While formal details of the engagement are yet to be disclosed, the meeting is seen as a positive step in reinforcing diplomatic ties and fostering cooperation in critical areas of mutual interest.

Queen Mary Elizabeth’s visit also holds symbolic significance, being one of the few by a reigning European monarch in recent years, and reflects Denmark’s interest in maintaining close diplomatic and development relations with Africa’s largest economy.
