Expert Urges Expectant Mothers to Embrace Awareness of Cesarean Section

Expectant mothers have been advised to understand the importance of Cesarean Section (C-section), with emphasis on the role of timely medical intervention in ensuring the safety of both mother and child.

A nurse, Uduakabasi Wille, gave the advice while speaking on Well Being, a health programme on Spectrum TV, during an interview with health correspondent Emediong James.

She explained that a C-section is a surgical procedure used to deliver a baby through incisions made in the mother’s abdomen and uterus, often recommended when vaginal delivery poses risks to either the mother or the baby.

According to her, while some C-sections are planned ahead of delivery, others are carried out as emergency procedures to prevent complications during labour.

Wille also debunked common misconceptions surrounding the procedure, urging expectant mothers to seek accurate medical information rather than rely on unfounded beliefs.

She further encouraged pregnant women to attend regular prenatal check-ups, engage healthcare providers in discussions about delivery options, and not fear the procedure when medically necessary.

The nurse stressed that informed decisions regarding delivery methods, including C-sections, play a critical role in reducing risks and promoting safer childbirth outcomes.
