Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, has said many of those who labelled former President Goodluck Jonathan as “clueless” during his time in office are now occupying positions of power in Nigeria.
Oritsejafor made the remark during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he responded to criticisms of Jonathan’s administration, particularly allegations relating to insecurity and corruption.
According to the cleric, several individuals who organised and supported protests against Jonathan’s government are now part of the current administration.
“Where are those people now? Are they not the same people today who are in power?” Oritsejafor asked.
“People who called him clueless, but they wouldn’t allow him to do the things he needed to do. They protested against him all over the place in Lagos especially, and across the country.”
He argued that those who led the opposition against Jonathan now have the opportunity to demonstrate the leadership qualities they claimed were lacking at the time.
“Now, the people who sponsored all those protests, who did a lot of all those things, many of them are the people in power today. So, now they have the clue, but look at where Nigeria is now,” he said.
When asked whether he regretted supporting former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 presidential election, Oritsejafor replied: “No, I don’t.”
The former CAN president also expressed concern about the current state of the nation and weighed in on the performance of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, advising the President against seeking a second term in office.
