Akwa Ibom state Government urges political candidates on issue based campaigns ahead of 2027 general elections

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged all political candidates to focus their campaigns on issue-based discussions rather than personal attacks and insults.

Speaking at the last day of the three-day prayer summit to usher in the fourth year of his administration, the Governor said insults and name calling do not win elections, but ideas, stressing that power belongs to God.

He noted that it was within the constitutional right of everyone to belong to any political party of choice, but emphasized on the need for decorum to maintain the peace in the State.

The Governor noted that the motive for seeking leadership should not be due to bitterness or need to run others down. He also called for unity and tolerance amongst religious leaders in the State for continued peace, enhanced development and progress.

The State Chief Executive urged everyone to continue to pray for Nigeria, and its leaders, with specific mention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Government house correspondent Jane Uwa reports that the Governor also appreciated the people for partaking in the prayer summit, and assured that the State was in good hands as he was leading with dignity, accountability and compassion, adding that the God of awesome wonders will continue to perform wonders in Akwa Ibom.
