Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has praised the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, for his commitment to women’s development and inclusive governance.
The First Lady gave the commendation during the celebration of International Women’s Day 2026 held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. She described Akwa Ibom as a united state known for its hospitality and progress.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls,” Tinubu said the occasion serves as a call to action to protect the rights of women and girls. She stressed the importance of ensuring access to education, economic empowerment, healthcare, social protection, and equity.
She also encouraged women to be agents of positive change in their homes, businesses, communities, and across the country.
In his remarks, Governor Eno thanked the First Lady for visiting the state to inaugurate the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Senior Citizens Centre and for participating in the International Women’s Day celebration.
The governor also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ongoing federal projects, including the coastal highway and the proposed Ibom Deep Seaport, which he said would create new economic opportunities for the state. He reaffirmed the state’s support for the president ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general election.
Governor Eno congratulated women in the state on the successful celebration of the day and pledged his administration’s continued commitment to empowering women and strengthening families.
Also speaking at the event, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, commended women in Akwa Ibom for their support and participation in governance. He praised Governor Eno for promoting unity and peace in the state, noting that good leadership brings joy to the people.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim, also highlighted the First Lady’s contributions to improving the lives of Nigerian women. She congratulated women in the state for marking the day with a grand celebration and assured the president of the continued support of Nigerian women.
