Thirty governors of the All Progressives Congress, including Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State and former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Sarafadeen Alli, have reportedly been cleared for the party’s primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.
Party sources confirmed the development on Thursday, but said the release of the official screening report has been delayed due to a flood of petitions.
As part of preparations to meet the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission for the elections, the APC had earlier announced that the names of cleared aspirants would be published on May 13.
Sources within the party disclosed that no fewer than 2,980 aspirants were screened for various positions, including one presidential slot, 28 governorship seats, 109 Senate positions, 360 House of Representatives seats and 991 state assembly positions.
Despite the completion of the exercise, the party was yet to officially release the screening report as of Thursday night.
Explaining the delay, a senior party official said the leadership was still reviewing the report to ensure accuracy and proper handling of petitions.
“We are still working on the screening report to make sure everything goes well,” the party leader said.
