Nigerian comedian and actor Samuel Animashaun Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has opened up about the stray-bullet injury that forced him away from work for months, revealing how the incident left him fearing for his life and uncertain about his future in entertainment.
Shaggi shared details of the ordeal in a YouTube video released on Wednesday, months after the incident, which occurred on March 9, 2026, while he was returning from a brand activation assignment around the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State.
According to the comedian, he and his team had finished the assignment and were caught in traffic when he suddenly heard a loud bang. He said everything appeared to go silent before he touched his hip and discovered that he was bleeding.
Shaggi said he initially did not realise he had been hit by a bullet until he saw the blood. He later lost consciousness and only remembered praying while he was being taken to a hospital.
He said medical personnel administered first aid before he was transferred to another facility where he received further treatment. The injury left him unable to properly use his leg and raised fears about whether he would ever return to dancing, acting, singing and other activities that form part of his career.
The entertainer revealed that he underwent surgery in Nigeria but later travelled to Dubai for additional treatment after being advised to continue with further medical care and physiotherapy.
According to Shaggi, his condition improved significantly after the operation in Dubai. He said he was able to stand with support on the second day and walk with crutches on the third day.
The months away from work also took an emotional toll on the comedian. He said he became worried that fans might forget him while watching his colleagues continue to release new content.
Despite his condition, Shaggi said he kept himself occupied by writing and working on a YouTube series during his recovery.
Reflecting on the incident, he expressed gratitude that the bullet struck his hip rather than his head or another vital organ, saying the outcome could have been much worse.
Shaggi said he can now stand without crutches but still uses them for support as he continues his recovery. He described surviving the incident as a “second chance” and assured his fans that he is preparing new projects for his return to the screen.
The Ogun State Police Command had previously said it could not confirm whether the shooting occurred within its jurisdiction and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information while investigations continued.
