The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, has appealed to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) for increased and consistent funding to strengthen the Commission’s operations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Prof. Amupitan made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of RMAFC, Mohammed Shehu, in Abuja, describing the visit as part of efforts to deepen collaboration between the two federal institutions.
He stressed that adequate and sustained funding is critical to enabling INEC effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities and ensure seamless preparations for the 2027 polls.
In his response, the RMAFC Chairman commended INEC for its consistency in conducting elections since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.
Shehu pledged the Commission’s support towards ensuring that INEC is adequately positioned to deliver credible elections in 2027, assuring that the doors of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission remain open for continued engagement and collaboration in support of the electoral body’s mandate.
