Nigeria’s oil output rises to 1.717m barrels daily in September – NUPRC

Nigeria’s average daily crude oil production rose to 1.717 million barrels per day in September 2026, according to the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The latest figure represents an increase from the country’s average production level in August, reflecting continued efforts by operators and regulators to improve output and curb production losses across the oil sector.

The NUPRC attributed the improvement to ongoing measures aimed at enhancing production efficiency, reducing crude theft and pipeline vandalism, and increasing investment in upstream oil and gas operations.

The rise in output is significant for Nigeria, where crude oil remains a major source of government revenue and foreign exchange earnings. Higher production could strengthen the country’s fiscal position and support efforts to boost economic growth.

The Federal Government has continued to target increased crude production as part of its broader strategy to stabilise the petroleum sector and attract fresh investment into upstream operations.

The NUPRC is expected to maintain its focus on improving operational efficiency and creating a more predictable regulatory environment as Nigeria works towards sustaining higher production levels in the coming months.
