Two-Year-Old Among 46 Abducted By Terrorists In Oyo Communities

A two-year-old girl, Christianah Akanbi, has been identified among the 46 persons abducted by terrorists during attacks on several communities in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State last Friday.

The victims include teachers, schoolchildren and residents from communities such as Ahoro-Esinele, Yawota, Oniya and Alawusa.

Among the abducted teachers are Mrs. Alamu Folawe, Principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele; Mr. Ojo Jonathan, Vice Principal; and teachers Mr. Olatunde Zacchaeus, Mr. John Olaleye, Mr. Michael Oyedokun, Mrs. Oladeji and Mary Akanbi of Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School.

Several children were also taken during the attack, including Christianah Akanbi, aged two, alongside dozens of minors between the ages of three and 16.

In Yawota Community alone, at least 20 children were abducted, including Emmanuel Oyedele, aged four; Sikiru Salami, aged three; Soliu Salami, aged four; and Deborah Adebowale, aged five.

Other affected communities include Oniya, where four children were kidnapped, and Alawusa Community, where residents including children aged between five and 14 were also taken away.

The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity and recurring abductions targeting rural communities and schoolchildren in parts of the country.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on efforts being made to secure the release of the victims.
