The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has extended a political olive branch to former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying many who left the party did so out of internal uncertainty rather than disloyalty.
The remarks came during the party’s 108th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, where the PDP faction aligned with Wike declared that it has moved past its internal crisis and is now focused on rebuilding and preparing for the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, described as a turning point by party stakeholders, emphasized reconciliation, restoration of trust, and early mobilisation ahead of the next electoral cycle. The faction also said it had reasserted control over the party’s national secretariat, which it described as a sign of legitimacy of the current leadership structure.
Wike urged the leadership to reach out to aggrieved and defected members, stressing the need to reunite the party’s ranks in order to strengthen its chances in future elections.
The NEC also reaffirmed its commitment to stabilising the party and repositioning it as a competitive force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
