Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has warned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as contractors handling government projects, that delays and poor supervision will no longer be tolerated, following the slow pace of work at the Judiciary Quarters project in Uyo.
The governor issued the warning during an unannounced inspection of the project, where he expressed disappointment after finding the construction site virtually deserted despite funds already being released for the work.
The Judiciary Quarters project is a 50-unit housing development comprising five-bedroom duplexes for judges and other senior judicial officers in the state.
Governor Eno said it was unacceptable for the government to pursue contractors to complete projects they had already been paid to execute, stressing that public funds must translate into visible results.
He gave the contractors a two-week ultimatum to significantly improve the pace of work or risk having their contracts terminated, warning that any government funds due for recovery would be reclaimed.
The governor also reminded public officials that effective supervision of government projects is a core responsibility and urged them to ensure contractors deliver according to agreed timelines.
He further stressed that employment opportunities created by the government must be matched with commitment, diligence and accountability rather than favouritism.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure, Governor Eno directed that the Judiciary Quarters project, which commenced in January, must be completed and ready for commissioning by December.
