Calabar — The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), in collaboration with the Cross River State Government, has confirmed a single case of COVID-19 in the state and activated emergency response measures to prevent further spread.
In a statement issued Tuesday night, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said the patient had been promptly isolated and is currently receiving care in line with national treatment guidelines.
“The patient is in stable condition and responding to care,” the agency said, while reassuring the public that there is no cause for panic.
The confirmed case was also acknowledged by the Cross River State Government. Speaking in Calabar, the state Commissioner for Health, Henry Ayuk, disclosed that the patient is a 53-year-old Chinese expatriate working with a company in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
Health authorities say contact tracing has begun to identify individuals who may have been exposed, while surveillance activities have been intensified across the state as part of containment efforts.
Officials emphasized that existing response systems are active and capable of managing the situation, urging residents to remain calm, observe hygiene practices, and report any symptoms promptly to health facilities.
The NCDC added that it is working closely with state authorities to ensure rapid containment and continuous monitoring of the situation.
