The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally petitioned the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, urging the Supreme Court to expedite judgment in a pending appeal over the party’s leadership crisis.
In a letter submitted through its legal counsel, Shuaibu Aruwa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, the party expressed concern over the delay in delivering a ruling, warning that it could undermine its chances of participating in the 2027 general elections.
The appeal before the apex court stems from a protracted leadership dispute involving the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee and Nafiu Bala-Gombe, who is also laying claim to the party’s leadership, alongside four other respondents.
The ADC further drew attention to recent actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), particularly the derecognition of its leadership, which it said has heightened uncertainty about the party’s status, despite remaining a registered political party.
The Supreme Court had last week reserved judgment in the matter, stating that a date for the ruling would be communicated to counsel representing all parties involved.
