The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), over allegations of forgery, fraud and impersonation.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Okokon Iniedu, confirmed that Adeyemi was apprehended by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team in Osun State following a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The warrant was issued after Adeyemi failed to appear for arraignment on an eight-count charge bordering on forgery, fraud and impersonation.
According to the police, Adeyemi is accused of forging an appointment letter allegedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. He is also alleged to have forged official State House documents and falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
The Presidency has since denied the existence of the PFIPC, while President Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the matter.
Adeyemi is expected to be produced before the Federal High Court in Abuja for his arraignment on September 30.
