Army Chief Visits Sokoto Community as Lakurawa Threats Raise Security Concerns

The General Officer Commanding, 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgba Koughna, has visited Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State to assess the security situation following renewed threats allegedly linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group.

Koughna’s visit was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army and Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba.

During the visit, the Army commander conducted an operational assessment of the Forward Operating Base in Kebbe and inspected surrounding communities.

The assessment followed reports of a renewed attack on Ungushi community in the area, amid growing security concerns along the Sokoto-Kebbi border.

Residents in some affected communities have reportedly fled their homes following attacks and incidents of livestock rustling blamed on armed groups.

The Army said the visit was aimed at assessing the situation on the ground and strengthening ongoing security operations in the affected areas.
