The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has directed his legal team to withdraw all ongoing defamation lawsuits against several individuals, saying the decision was inspired by counsel he received during a New Year Mass.
Speaking at the Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo, Akpabio disclosed that he had filed nearly nine defamation suits against individuals he accused of making damaging allegations against him.
According to him, the lawsuits, instituted in 2025, included high-profile cases such as the defamation action against his colleague, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Earlier in the year, Akpabio’s wife had also filed defamation suits against Akpoti-Uduaghan over claims she said were injurious to her family’s reputation.
