A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ned Nwoko, has vowed to challenge the outcome of the party’s senatorial primary in court, insisting that he won the exercise based on results and evidence allegedly gathered from the wards.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Nwoko rejected the declaration of former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as winner of the senatorial primary, alleging that the announced results did not reflect the actual votes cast during the exercise.
According to the senator, party officials instructed midway into the primary that no results should be announced at the ward level, directing instead that all results be collated and announced later at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
Nwoko said his team complied with the directive in good faith before reports later emerged declaring Okowa winner of the contest. He questioned the credibility of the figures announced from one of the wards, alleging discrepancies between the turnout seen in a video from the exercise and the official results released.
The senator maintained that only one ward video had been made public out of the 98 wards involved in the primary and challenged party officials to release evidence from the remaining wards to support the declared outcome.
Nwoko further stated that he would reject any decision upheld by the APC national leadership if it contradicts what he described as the genuine mandate of party members, while expressing confidence that President Bola Tinubu would intervene in the matter.
