A five-member Caretaker Committee has been constituted to oversee the affairs of the University of Uyo Alumni Association, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, with a mandate to conduct elections and hand over leadership to a newly elected executive within 90 days.
According to a statement issued by the South-South Vice President of the association, Uwem Udoma, the committee will be chaired by Dr. Marshal Abia, with Prince Ubong Essien serving as Secretary. Other members include Mmayen Edward, Mbetobon Tom, and Ernest Awakessien.
The committee has been tasked with restoring functional structures within the chapter, rebuilding confidence among members, reactivating alumni engagement, and organizing a credible and inclusive election in accordance with the association’s constitution.
Dr. Udoma explained that the decision to constitute the caretaker body followed consultations with stakeholders across the South-South zone amid concerns about the operational effectiveness of the chapter in Akwa Ibom State.
He described the assignment as strictly transitional and corrective, emphasizing that the committee does not have a mandate to make long-term policy decisions.
Udoma also called on members of the alumni community of the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to support the interim leadership, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening all chapters in the South-South zone while promoting accountability and institutional integrity within the association.
