Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced that the State Geriatric Centre, also known as the ARISE Elderly Citizens Centre, will be commissioned by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Saturday, 7 March 2026.
Governor Eno made this known during the March edition of the Government House monthly covenant service, stating that the commissioning of the facility, located on the Arise Medical Corridor along the Uyo–Ikot Ekpene Road, will form a major highlight of the First Lady’s first official visit to the state. He added that the grand finale of the ongoing women sensitisation and mobilisation tour would also feature prominently during the visit.
According to the Governor, the centre, which includes a health facility and relaxation areas, is designed to cater for senior citizens, particularly those aged 65 and above.
He commended women across the state for their active participation in the sensitisation and economic empowerment programme and conveyed warm greetings from the First Lady to them. Governor Eno also appreciated those who attended the covenant service, noting that the state is undertaking numerous projects that require continued prayers for divine guidance and speed.
Highlighting ongoing development efforts, the Governor disclosed that the state is constructing a brand-new jetty in Oron to revive the city’s commercial activities. He also revealed that preliminary works have commenced at the Ikot Ekpene International Market, with full construction set to begin soon, alongside other strategic projects across the three senatorial districts.
Governor Eno further announced that the state will take delivery of two new Airbus aircraft within the year, adding that several projects are ongoing at the Victor Attah International Airport in preparation for the commencement of international flights in April.
While outlining achievements of his administration, he described peace and stability as the state’s greatest asset and urged residents to resist any attempt by individuals or groups to disrupt the prevailing harmony.
The Governor also announced that the State Congress of the All Progressives Congress has been scheduled for Tuesday, 3 March 2026, and encouraged party members to participate. He called on the congregation to continue praying for the success of his administration, as well as for the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and President Bola Tinubu.
