Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Makinde made the announcement on Thursday during a mega rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, where he also unveiled what he described as the “Reset Nigeria Movement.”
The Oyo governor said the country needs accountable leadership, institutional reforms and economic revival to address its growing challenges.
“The time to reset Nigeria is now. Therefore, today, I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, announce my candidacy for the position of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he declared.
Makinde said his presidential ambition would be pursued through an alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement.
He also called on opposition parties across the country to unite ahead of the 2027 elections, warning against attempts to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
The declaration attracted supporters, political allies and party members from different parts of the country, with many describing the move as a major development in the build-up to the 2027 general elections.
