Residents Welcome Deployment of US Troops to Nigeria to Combat Insecurity

Some residents of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, have expressed approval of the recent deployment of American troops to Nigeria to assist in the fight against insecurity, including Boko Haram, ISWAP, banditry, and other violent groups.

Speaking with our correspondent, Nnamdie Sunday, IT expert Etimbuk Benson welcomed the move and expressed optimism that the collaboration would help curb insecurity in the country. While he criticized successive Nigerian governments for failing to address the problem effectively, Benson praised the United States for offering assistance and urged both government and local communities to work toward reducing radicalization among youth and promoting peace.

“I hope this partnership will not only strengthen security operations but also encourage education and dialogue among our young people on the importance of living peacefully,” Benson said.

Another resident, Aniebiet Thompson, shared similar sentiments, expressing confidence that collaboration between the American and Nigerian militaries would improve intelligence sharing and help tackle the nation’s security challenges.

The development follows a statement by the Head of the US Africa Command, General Dagvin Anderson, who confirmed that the United States had deployed a small military team to Nigeria to provide support in counter-insurgency operations.

Residents in Uyo said they are hopeful that the move will bring tangible results in restoring safety and stability across affected regions.
