The Super Falcons of Nigeria began their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in style on Sunday, securing a dominant 3-0 victory over Tunisia at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco.
Nigeria opened the scoring just three minutes into the match, when Rinsola Babajide’s expertly delivered free-kick found Asisat Oshoala, who nodded home to put the Falcons ahead.
The pressure continued throughout the half, and the team was rewarded again in the 45th minute. This time, Babajide turned from provider to scorer, slotting past the Tunisian goalkeeper to double Nigeria’s lead. She celebrated with Diogo Jota’s trademark gesture—a heartfelt tribute to the Liverpool star who tragically died last Thursday alongside his brother, Andre Silva.
One assist. One goal. All in the first half.

Despite several chances to extend their lead, including a long-range effort from Ashleigh Plumptre that was tipped over the bar, the Super Falcons had to wait until the 80th minute to seal the win. Chinwendu Ihezuo added the third with a calm left-footed finish into the bottom corner.
After falling short in the semi-finals of the 2022 edition—also hosted by Morocco—the Super Falcons are now focused on clinching a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
