United Nigeria Airlines has blamed bad weather for landing passengers of its flights in Asaba instead of Abuja

It was reported earlier that passengers of a Nigerian airline on Sunday were left in distress after ‘mistakenly’ landing in Asaba airport instead of Abuja where passengers booked.

A furious passenger who shared the development claimed the pilot of the plane was given the wrong flight plan from Lagos.

This generated means reactions from Nigerians as it comes days after a series of plane crashlanding incidents in different airports.

However, the airline reacting development in a statement titled; “TEMPORARY DIVERSION OF FLIGHT TO ASABA” claimed the incident happened due to bad weather, adding that the passengers have since arrived their destination in Abuja.

The statement signed by the airline’s, Head of Corporate Communications, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbe reads; “A united Nigeria Airlines flight, NUA 0504, operating from the MM2 in Lagos enroute Abuja on Sunday, November 26, 2023, was temporarily diverted to the Asaba International Airport due to poor destination weather.

“At all material time, the Pilot of the aircraft was aware of the temporary diversion and was properly briefed.
However, a wrong announcement was made by cabin crew upon landing safely in Asaba, creating confusion among the passengers.

“Meanwhile, the aircraft has landed safely in Abuja following improvement on destination weather.

“United Nigeria Airlines remains committed to ensuring the safety of its passengers at all times.”
