ADC NEC Takes Over Party Leadership Amid Crisis

Interim Committee Announced as Leaders Move to Stabilise Party Ahead of 2027 Elections

Abuja, Nigeria — The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African Democratic Congress has assumed control of the party’s administration, citing an urgent need to rescue it from collapse following prolonged leadership disputes and regulatory concerns.

Addressing a world press conference in Abuja, 25 state chairmen and NEC members said the intervention was necessary to stabilise the party and safeguard its participation in future elections. They warned that failure to act could worsen internal divisions and weaken the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As part of immediate steps, the NEC announced the formation of a 20-member interim leadership committee to oversee the party’s affairs for a period of two to three weeks, pending the conduct of a national convention.

The Kogi State Chairman, Kingsley Ogah, was named interim national chairman, while the Edo State Chairman, Kennedy Odion, will serve as interim national secretary.

The committee also distanced itself from ongoing congresses reportedly conducted by a rival leadership faction, insisting that such activities were neither approved nor recognised by the NEC.

In addition, the NEC expressed support for the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing its actions in the ongoing situation as necessary and in line with regulatory standards.

The NEC further disclosed that the party’s Board of Trustees is currently inactive following a wave of resignations, leaving administrative control in the hands of elected party officials in accordance with its constitution.

The development marks a critical turning point for the ADC as it seeks to resolve internal conflicts and reposition itself ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
