EFCC Declares Former Petroleum Minister Timipre Sylva Wanted Over $14.8bn Fraud Allegation

Abuja, Nigeria — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared a former Minister of Petroleum Resources and former Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, wanted over alleged involvement in a multi-billion-dollar fraud case.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft agency said Sylva is wanted in connection with an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $14,859,257,000.

According to the EFCC, the sum represents funds reportedly invested by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) into Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited for the construction of a refinery.

The Commission disclosed that it obtained a warrant for Sylva’s arrest from the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on November 6, 2025.

The EFCC urged anyone with information on the former minister’s whereabouts to contact its offices across the country or report through official communication channels.
