Gov. Umo Eno Approves ₦2.5bn for Palm Seedlings, Reviews Key Projects in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved the sum of ₦2.5 billion for the procurement of over 620,000 palm seedlings for distribution to registered farmers across the 31 local government areas of the state.

The governor said the initiative forms part of his administration’s broader efforts to boost agricultural productivity and stimulate economic growth in Akwa Ibom.

Governor Eno disclosed this during the March Projects Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Uyo, where he reiterated his commitment to timely project execution and sustainable development.

In his opening remarks, the governor appreciated stakeholders for their continued support and highlighted 86 priority projects being pursued by his administration outside key sectors such as roads, healthcare, and education. He stressed the need for stronger collaboration among ministries, departments, and agencies to improve output and ensure efficient service delivery.

As part of efforts to accelerate development initiatives, Governor Eno directed the constitution of an inter-ministerial committee to oversee the completion and commissioning of Youth Friendly Centres across the state.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, the governor also addressed the state’s electricity challenges. He outlined ongoing reforms and a clear roadmap for Akwa Ibom to take ownership of its power market, attributing the current power situation to low generation levels nationwide. He, however, assured residents that the government is actively engaging relevant stakeholders to improve electricity supply.

The meeting also featured a comprehensive review of ongoing projects, with a total of 55 initiatives assessed and clear timelines established for their completion and commissioning.

Following a presentation by the Ministry of Works, the governor announced that an additional 10 road projects spanning 58.5 kilometres have been completed and are scheduled for commissioning in May 2026. The projects form part of over 1,300 kilometres of road infrastructure being developed across the state.

In his closing remarks, Governor Eno commended stakeholders for their contributions and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on the ARISE Agenda for the overall benefit of the people of Akwa Ibom.
