Governor Otu Mourns UNICROSS Students, Staff Killed in Road Crash

Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of students and a staff member of the University of Cross River State who lost their lives in a road accident along the Calabar–Itu Highway.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Sunday, the governor described the incident as devastating, noting that it has plunged the state into mourning.

“I received with a deeply broken heart the devastating news of the tragic road accident involving students and a staff member of the University of Cross River State. This painful incident has cast a heavy shadow over our dear state and brought immense sorrow to us all,” he said.

Governor Otu lamented the loss of the victims, describing them as promising young individuals whose lives were cut short at a time when they had so much to offer society.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the management, staff, and students of the university, as well as the entire Cross River State community.

The governor also called for renewed caution among road users and emphasised the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies.

The accident occurred along the busy Calabar–Itu Highway, a major route known for frequent traffic incidents, though details surrounding the cause of the crash were yet to be officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.

Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations into the incident.
