PSC Upholds Dismissal of Police Officers Over Alleged Killing in Delta

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has ratified the dismissal of Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Nuhu Usman, and four other officers over their alleged involvement in the killing of 28-year-old Mr. Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.

The incident, which occurred on April 26, 2026, sparked public concern and prompted an investigation by the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, findings from the Police Monitoring Unit revealed that the officers were involved in professional misconduct, abuse of office, and actions likely to cause a breach of public peace, culminating in the unlawful killing of the victim.

Following the investigation, the case file has been forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for vetting and prosecution, with the Police pledging full cooperation to ensure justice is served.

The Police have reiterated that no suspicion, regardless of its severity, justifies extra-judicial actions, stressing that all suspects are entitled to due process under the law.

Authorities also disclosed that the driver who delivered a parcel linked to the incident, as well as two vigilante members, remain at large. Tactical teams have since been deployed to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

According to the Police account, the deceased had received a parcel from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, which he later took to a motor park in Effurun for onward delivery to Sapele. The parcel was subsequently searched and reportedly found to contain a fabricated Beretta pistol and four rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The Police Service Commission’s decision to uphold the dismissal underscores ongoing efforts to enforce accountability within the Force and ensure adherence to professional and human rights standards.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
