Nigeria’s Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Sununu, has resigned from his position to pursue political ambitions in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Confirming his resignation, Sununu stated that his decision aligns with existing regulations requiring public office holders seeking elective positions to step down. The former federal lawmaker, who represented the Shanga, Yauri, and Ngaski Federal Constituency, is reportedly planning to contest the Kebbi South Senatorial District seat.
In a related development, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has also resigned to pursue his governorship ambition in Bauchi State. Tuggar, a member of the All Progressives Congress, reportedly submitted his resignation ahead of the deadline set by the presidency.
The resignations follow a directive by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, mandating all political appointees with electoral ambitions to vacate their offices on or before March 31, 2026.
