OPM Pastor Seeks Husband for Autistic Adopted Daughter, Offers Incentives

PORT HARCOURT — The General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Chibuzor Chinyere, has sparked widespread reactions after publicly announcing that he is seeking a husband for his adopted daughter, who is living with autism.

In a statement that has since circulated widely, Chinyere said his decision was driven by concern for the long-term welfare and companionship of the young woman. He described her as kind and in need of a supportive partner who understands her condition.

To encourage interest, the cleric reportedly offered incentives to any willing suitor, including financial support and assistance in establishing a stable livelihood. He emphasized that the gesture was aimed at ensuring his daughter’s future security and happiness.

The announcement has generated mixed reactions among Nigerians. While some praised the pastor for his commitment to the well-being of his adopted child, others raised ethical and social concerns about the approach, particularly regarding consent, dignity, and the complexities of relationships involving individuals with developmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Advocates and experts have stressed the importance of prioritizing the autonomy and rights of persons with disabilities in matters of marriage, noting that any such arrangement must be based on mutual consent and a clear understanding by all parties involved.

The development has also reignited broader conversations around care systems, social inclusion, and support structures for individuals living with autism in Nigeria.
