Residents of Ikot Ibritam in Ekeffe Ikot Akpan Afaha, Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, have appealed to the state government to intervene and complete the construction of a road linking their communities, saying its completion would significantly improve transportation and daily living conditions.
The residents explained that the road, which connects several villages including Ikot Ibritam and Ekeffe Ikot Akpan Afaha, has been abandoned for a long period by the construction company handling the project.
Speaking with correspondent Nnamdie Smith, a community stakeholder, Etimbuk Benson, lamented the hardship caused by the abandoned project, noting that the deteriorated condition of the road has created security concerns and exposed residents to criminal activities and extortion.
Benson further highlighted the area’s rich natural resources, including fish, periwinkle, plantain, vegetables and palm wine, stating that the community could become economically viable if the road leading to its market is completed. He added that the market previously attracted traders from neighbouring Rivers State before the road became impassable.
He therefore appealed to the Akwa Ibom State Government to urgently come to the aid of residents of Inen Ekeffe in Oruk Anam Local Government Area by ensuring the completion of the project.
